THE JOURNEY OF EMPATHY, CONNECTION & GRATITUDE

Our recent visit to two charitable homes Shanti Sadan and Cheshire Home was a deeply moving and enriching experience for everyone involved. A group of 15 students from Don Bosco School, Kokar, Ranchi, Jharkhand, accompanied by Salesian Co-operators set out with the intention of offering support, sharing joy, and learning valuable life lessons. What began as a simple act of charity soon turned into a profound journey of empathy, connection, and gratitude.

The first stop was at Shanti Sadan, the home for destitute women, lovingly managed by the Sisters of Destitute. The home shelters around 50 women, each with her own story of struggle and resilience. Despite their hardships, the atmosphere was filled with warmth and care. The students & Cooperators took the time to interact with the residents, sharing smiles, engaging in conversations, and exchanging small tokens of kindness. Donations were made to support their daily needs, but more importantly, emotional bonds were formed that went beyond material help.

The group then visited the Cheshire Home for specially-abled persons run by Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul. Here too, the spirit of care and dignity was evident in every corner. The students and Co-operators organised singing and dancing sessions, which brought immense joy to the residents. Laughter echoed through the halls as everyone joined in, creating a lively and inclusive environment. It was a beautiful reminder that happiness can be shared in the simplest of ways, transcending physical and social barriers.

This experience left a deep and lasting impact on all the visitors. It opened their hearts to the realities faced by others and inspired a stronger sense of compassion and responsibility. More than just a charitable visit, it was a new and profound experience that taught invaluable lessons about humanity, kindness, and the true meaning of giving.
